Fine Art - Forest of Dolls

In 'Forest of Dolls (Doll no Mori)', shot in Spring 2008 in Japan, I explore the role of blankness in the image world & the exploitation of the image of young women. Adolescent girls often depicted in art and advertising as inanimate objects with vacant stares and strange doll-like gestures. These solitary figures digitally combine the bodies of real girls in Tokyo street scenes with the heads of Japanese silicon 'love dolls'. Their addition to the 'real' girls' bodies invites the viewer to consider the way teenage subjects are used as on a par with the function of the 'love doll'; both are blank surfaces on to which we project our own desire, sadness, nostalgia and loss of innocence.
